Painting with soil. Cave Art

Cave Art is fun!

1) Start by searching for different coloured soil. Remember, as you dig deeper, the soil colour, quality,  and type changes.  When we did this project, we collected  6 different types of soil, thus creating 6 shades of brown to paint with. Amazing how much variety there is with soil alone!

2)  Next pound the soil using mortar or large stones, as they probably did in the old days. Sieve the large stones out. Children love this part and have lots of fun! The girls especially think it's like masak-masak (cooking.)

3)Once soil is pounded,  mix in some water and a bit of vegetable shortening/oil.

4)  The Paint is now ready! You first create the outline of your picture by using charcoal, then paint over with  "soil paint".

this is mine..when I showed the children how to do one.

All in all, it is an enjoyable project, easy to do and fun. :) Do try it! however, be forewarned that it can be messy, coz when children's imagination go wild, they CAN do a lot of other things with the soil!  :)

(Group projects are really fun. I think, more worthwhile than going for tuition after tuition.)
